AAA rhythm game experience within the Fortnite platform
Platforms: PlayStation · Xbox · PC · Android
Role: UX Researcher
Scope: Ideation → Launch → Post-Launch
As the UX Researcher, I owned the full research lifecycle across all phases of development. I worked in close partnership with game designers, producers, and product managers to integrate player insights at every critical milestone, from validating early concepts to fine-tuning the experience after launch.
I deployed a tailored mix of methodologies at each stage of development to answer different stakeholder questions while advocating for players' experience:
Ideation: Competitive Analysis, Interviews, Surveys
Pre-Launch: Concept Testing, Prototype Testing, Usability Testing
Launch & Beyond: Playtests, Usability Testing, Surveys, Interviews
Shaped core design decisions from the ground up by providing research analysis at the ideation stage, long before significant development resources were committed. This helped the team make key changes to the core loop early.
Identified and resolved key friction points across all four platforms through iterative usability testing.
Delivered ongoing post-launch insights that help inform live updates and continued to improve the player experience at scale.
Helped launch a product with a strong experiential foundation within one of the most competitive and high-profile gaming franchises in the world.
Open-world LEGO experience with Ninja twist within the Fortnite platform
Platforms: PlayStation · Xbox · PC · Android
Role: UX Researcher
Scope: Ideation → Launch → Post-Launch
As a UX Researcher, I led all research efforts from ideation through a multi-phase launch, independently owning the research strategy, methodology selection, and ensuring player insights impacted design decisions at every stage of development.
Ideation: Competitive analysis, interviews, surveys
Pre-launch: Concept testing, prototype testing, usability testing
Multi-phase launch: 4-hour playtest sessions with experienced and amateur LEGO players, gameplay footage analysis, survey analysis
Post-launch: Ongoing playtests, usability testing, surveys, interviews
Recruited and playtested with a diverse mix of experienced and amateur LEGO players to capture a broader spectrum of player perspectives and friction points.
Conducted in-depth 4-hour sessions designed to identify deep usability issues and authentic player behavior under real gameplay conditions.
Synthesized gameplay footage alongside survey responses to produce a comprehensive, multi-dimensional view of the player experience.
Translated findings into clear, actionable insights presented to the development team to inform iterative design improvements.
Research-driven design improvements contributed to a measurable and sustained increase in both player acquisition and session length.
Successfully navigated the complexity of a multi-phase launch by maintaining a continuous research feedback loop throughout each release.
Fantastical narrative world meets musical gardening
Platforms: PC
Role: UX Researcher and QA tester
Scope: 2 phases before Launch
Contributed to a two-phase UX research study on Mutazione, a narrative-driven adventure game. Research focused on evaluating core gameplay comprehension, emotional experience, and the effectiveness of the game's dialogue system, ensuring the player experience aligned with the creative vision of the development team.
Pre-launch: Semi-structured Interviews, Surveys, Think-Aloud Protocol, PANAS worksheet, Eye tracking
Phase 1 - Gameplay comprehension & emotional experience
Moderated playtest sessions using think-aloud protocol, players verbalized their in-game actions and intentions to surface real-time perception and decision-making.
Followed up with semi-structured interviews to probe players' mental models and compare their perceived objectives against the developers' intended experience.
Administered PANAS (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule) worksheets post-session to quantitatively measure the emotional valence of the overall player experience.
Phase 2- Dialogue system evaluation via eye-tracking
Deployed a screen-based eye-tracker across all sessions to evaluate which dialogue system best supported reading comprehension in a narrative-heavy game.
Recorded gaze replay videos to enable detailed post-session analysis of player attention patterns across dialogue UI variations.
